  I had a presentation about Screeps and opened the tutorial which opened a new branch in my code...I decided to open a new tab to show them my existing code for comparison and it just switched branches I opened the wrong tap, copied the tutorial code...and bam Everything lost during the presentation....

  Because of a debate with people who can't for some reason see how real time is unpredictable, I'm going to explain a little more here. Shard average seconds per tick, is 3. Severe issues like right now, have it at 10.5-11. Game.time = ticks, this is a constant. You will always get a tick from Game.time new date = fixed real time, unknown tick. 1000 ticks at 3x is 50 minutes. 1000 ticks at 10.5x is 2 hours 55 minutes. Guy outside the novice zone has received threats from the guy inside the zone. Guy who sent the threats from inside novice zone needs to prepare an army as well. They both know that at exactly 8AM server time the novice zone will drop. Player1, it ends at 1AM his time so he sets his army to start producing 40 minutes before 1AM his time using "new date" while he sleeps. He assumed that, since the server is always 3 seconds per tick, his calculated approach would work and he'd be ready by then. Player2, its a weekend and 10AM for him when the novice zone goes down. He's awake and sees that tick time is 10.6x. So he starts producing his army 2 hours 40 before novice period ends because he was able to re-calculate the real ticks remaining before novice period ends. Unfortunately, the guy who set his to use real time, lost the war. Because time dilation screwed up his army production and only 24% of his army got produced before he was hit. But if tick time is used. Knowing Novice Zone will end at exactly tick 1,000,000. Both players start producing their army at tick 999,000. Regardless of any server speed ups or slow downs. Both armies will produce in perfect synchronization. Regardless of who's asleep and awake, regardless of how bad the tick lag is, both armies will be produced simultaneously and attack at the exact time the novice area goes down. Real Time, just can't be used to predict what tick to prepare your army at. Creeps live 1500 ticks, not 25 minutes. Don't use real time for things that depend on tick time.

  I very much like the idea of areas that are more desirable than others. The shards are homogeneous and the only real differences in any particular sector is who is there. Maybe there is some bragging rights to holding the center area, but there is no incentive for conflict, or for me to go anywhere. It would be extremely interesting to have areas that AIs, especially groups of AIs would have to work together to hold, and there be some reason for them to do that. I get the point about not wanting to open a new shard. Instead, how about something like there could be something in the middle room of a sector, a puzzle, a NPC boss, something. This could be an interesting programming problem to solve. It could be made even more interesting by only being solvable by more than one player forcing AIs to coordinate. Once solved, this would unlock something interesting. Extra resources, a special building that does something neat, and beneficial to the group of people involved, and it's nature could be unique to that room. Some of the rooms could be higher level, with better rewards and harder puzzles / bosses, more people needed. Whatever. This would be able to be included in the current infrastructure. The good, center rooms could be rare, and valuable, and therefore sought after by other groups of people, creating conflict over specific sectors. Having the special rooms being in the center with the portals adds some extra excitement, as you never know when your enemies will have access to your specials.

  +1 My heap is reached so fast and its really confusing as to what is taking up all that space. I tried to count up what variables i have stored on global and reach only a few mb's. Some way of debugging it would be great help also.

I'd argue it's not really adding complication to the end user's code. The (undefined) default would still boost the creep's parts for its entire lifespan. The new variable on boosted parts likely wouldn't affect anyone adversely, and I think it unlikely many even use the existing boost variables on the individual creep parts. This is just an idea to give us more flexibility for creativity, especially since the devs are actively trying to increase the costs of boosts. Perhaps when power creeps come out (hahahahahahha) then this idea will offer greater usability since they have the potential to legitimize many more niches for creeps.

  Hello Hexcede, As Screeps is the game more about automation rather than interacting, I doubt that many players need the improvements you suggested. I'd say if you really need it, you can implement them yourself based on ScreepsSC or similar extension for UI/keys handling (and put UI/keys commands into a queue in your memory) and implement reaction to those commands in your codebase. That's exactly what I did to handle 'selected object' thing (draw path/task of creep I selected in UI, display spawn queue if I selected a spawner etc)

  Ultimately wouldn't it just be simpler to use RoomPosition.lookFor(LOOK_STRUCTURES) and structureType != STRUCTURE_WALL before you place down your road? And just a note if you really want to organize your code for everything you can just make your own custom api for specific types of game objects and require it making it easier to update in the future.

I assumed most of the links within the tutorial were a light suggestion or just handy rather than so meaty. That and the focus on such a fundamental concept would have been a bit more "in your face" during the tutorial. In either case, I'm happy to take complete responsibility for missing this bit, but I would be curious how many were like me and missed this. Thanks again!

  Agreed. If anything performance seems to be worse with the change from SVG graphics. Now when you zoom in inside a room the whole page stutters to a halt in chrome. I'm running an r9 280X and 3570k so those aren't the issue and this wasn't really a problem when SVG was in use. The map view is also pretty bad with larger window sizes. Having the window set to 1440p, it takes about 5 seconds to load all the rooms in the map and just panning around is incredibly slow. Strangely, firefox seems to have better performance at room level but worse at the map since it freezes the entire window until every room in view is loaded.

  @crusher48 The chances of natural invaders being an issue to an attacker seem even lower than the chances of invaders being an issue for their creators.
