Help me!

You have to buy Screeps to get your CPU activated or to use private servers. If you don't want to buy it for now there is the sim of course and (I don't know whether it's just a bug) you can as well spawn on PTR (Note that PTR gets reset every week, also see Screeps documentation about that topic).
-
I believe Ducky is right on this one, I had a friend recently who wanted to play as well and It was originally my understanding that if you were not on subscription you could play with 20 CPU via the web-client, however my friend found out you still have to own the base-game Screeps (steam or else wise) to play on the main server.
-
yeah, it'll ask you to pay on the initial spawn-in, but you can ignore it and keep playing with 20 CPU max (if you bought the steam version). Paying for a CPU subscription would give you
20+(GCL*10)
CPU, increasing as your GCL increases. If you have not purchased the steam version and dont have a CPU subscription, then yeah, thats an issue.
-
To clarify:
If you want to play you need either a subscription which grands you 20CPU + 10CPU*GCL on a monthly basis.
or
You need to buy the game on steam which grands you a lifetime base CPU of 20 and additionaly the steam version gives you access to the private servers. However if you are capable enough to make enough credits you can buy a subscription token in game, but this requires to buy the game once.
-
@mrfaul The trial month was discontinued when we doubled the lifetime base.
-
@o4kapuk oh, fixed it ... Still a good deal.
-
@o4kapuk Is it intended that you can spawn on PTR without having bought Screeps on Steam?
-
@duckymirror No, you can't. You can't spawn on PTR server. Only one way to access to PTR server is to spawning on official server and wait until PTR server is synced with official.
-
@duckymirror Then what is the point of the game? There should be a trial period so someone can decide if they would like to invest in Screeps
-
@galaxyowl The sim room is available for free. you can run through the tutorials, and even set up custom rooms to see whether you like the game or not. I think that'd count as an infinite "trial period," as it doesnt even require you to log in to access.
-
@semperrabbit Can you collect materials and sell them from the sim?
-
You can always just start writing your code base (which is basically how you 'play' anyway), wishlist the game on Steam and wait for a sale if $20 is too much.
-
@riggs But would i be able to collect materials and sell them from the sims?
-
No. You cannot participate in the MMO server without paying some amount of money.
-
@flyasd1 You can. I've tried it.

This post is deleted!
-
@duckymirror This is weird. I'll check it, thanks

hmm strange was able to get onto the PTR server by basically just making sure I stayed logged into the main one despite only having messed around in SIM. That say SIM needs an add RoomToSIMWorld function of some kind so we can test multiroom code and mess around with a tad more of the game.
If all else fails a web only totally disconnected micro shard for the website end could solve some of the whining from people that don't want to play on steam or buy through steam, the players would just have to tolerate being crammed into a tuna can's worth of space. XD
