It would be a great addition, being able to chat to other players, share scripting ideas without having to resort to irc, even if its simply an irc chatbox

there is... click a players name and click send message. Or use the unofficial irc chat.

There is really zero difference in using the webchat link for the irc room and an in-game one. They're both in your browser.
