Steam client: "An error occured while connecting to the server. Please try again later."


  • Steam client and local steam server works fine. Public server and screepsplus works fine.

    However, I am unable to connect to a freshly installed server on a Linux machine on my network. The steam client just says "An error occured while connecting to the server. Please try again later.", which is monumentally unhelpful. What is the error dammit!

    I cannot find any client log files with any more information. Nothing is displayed on the server console or any server log files, and I cannot find any options to increase the verbosity.

    Please fix this. Hiding error messages like this is a shooting offence - especially since this is a game aimed at programmers! How am I supposed to figure out what's wrong if the cause is hidden from me?
