Respawn protection
-
I think the 3 hours of protection when you respawn is not enough. In the last week butcher has slayed me multiple times (mainly because my lack of defense) and I've been thinking about how to stop this from happening.
After 3 hours your room controller probably be level 2 with 50% progress, which enables you to spend a maximum of 550 energy per creep. You can also build some ramparts but it'll never be enough to have defenses capable of defending vs a player with room level 5+.
I think the respawn protection should therefore become 10 or 12 hours. In this time you'll reach level 3 which enables creeps of 800 energy, furthermore you'll be able to build some defense structures to support your creeps.

I pretty much agree with this. I think the docs also say 3 days, not 3 hours. Maybe this isi just a config error?
-
I very much agree!
The 3 days is for a new player. But 3 hours is WAY too short to get some basic protection in place.

Is there any update on this? This is pretty much the reason I'll stop playing.

This post has been created 1 year ago. Things have been totally changed since then. See actual info in this article: http://support.screeps.com/hc/en-us/articles/203390711-Birth-and-death

Artem, it's not like in the article. Check out my room's history: https://screeps.com/a/#!/history/E33N8?t=11858566

According to your room history, you voluntarily removed your protection walls on tick #11859768, when you still had 18339 protection ticks remaining.
-
I figured out what's going on in chat: Breaking a wall destroys noob protection. The guy before me did the same thing.
-
Well, room protection basically consists in those walls. What kind of protection would you expect without the protection walls?
-
Artem, thanks for looking at my history and explaining to me what happened. I got the answer from chat at the same time you posted. To answer your question, I believe a stronger message or popup saying "WARNING - this will disable room protection!" would help beginners in the future to avoid such mistakes.
