You can sell resources on the market and earn credits by doing so.

If you put up a buy/sell order, you get charged 5% credits.

Q: Those people who already have credits to be able to put up a buy order... where did those credits originally come from?

you can sell some stuff by fulfilling a market order of an other player or npc market orders to get initial credits

I think you could also buy a subscription token for $$$ and then sell it for credits.
